Government of Canada Invests in Future Northern Workforce

It is great to see money invested in encouraging Northern youth to work in STEM fields. Hopefully some of these students will go beyond simply "working" as such, and go into advanced degrees and do research - I think that all of science will benefit from the insights from this under-represented group.

CanNor is investing $400,000 over 2 years (2014-15 and 2015-16) in Actua’s science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programs which will build skills in these areas for over 5,000 northern youth aged 6-16 in over 30 northern communities. These programs seek to demonstrate to northern youth the exciting career possibilities in these fields and to strengthen the foundation for economic and social prosperity for northern communities.
