Salty wetlands danger sign for in situ oilsands projects

Well, this is an interesting coin - good on one side, bad on the other. Teh question, of course, is whether we wantto risk our future on a flip of the coin.

It partly happens because in this spot there is a plume of salty water bubbling up from underground. How far down it starts is not known.

The discovery of the salty spring wetlands is significant for two reasons — it’s potentially a big helping in reclamation efforts and it’s a warning of possible hazards for oilsands producers who store contained waste water underground.
