More on the closure of Canada's strongest magnet facility

I linked to the announcement on this yesterday, but it looks like the media has picked up on it too:

The world’s strongest magnet dedicated to studying solids, and the strongest magnet in the country overall, is in Ottawa. But it will soon be shut down because the federal government refuses to fund the project.

The most absurd thing is the sheer pittance that it costs to operate and the benefits that it brings

“There are hundreds of researchers from more than 20 universities in Canada who use it,” he said in French. “Several research programs will have to be abandoned and the advantage Canada has gained in this field will be lost.”
